Napsters: Evan Walker, guitar, bass and vocals; Tommy Simms, bass, guitar, keyboards, drums, vocals; and Cody Borden, drums, bass, keyboards and vocals.
Homebase: Clearwater.
Collective age: They're all 21.
What they sound like: Dynamic and poppy dance rock with rough textures and British Invasion-styleharmonies and guitars.
Multitasking maneuvers: When performing live, they switch instruments during songs and take turns singing.
Heroes, influences: Jon Brion, the Beach Boys, Elliott Smith and Pixies.
Borden: "I just recently got Spoon Gimme Fiction. When I first heard it, I fell insanely in love with it. It seems like if rock 'n' roll kept on a steady pace from when mainstream was good, like during the times of the Beatles and Stones, Spoon would be the product of rock not getting perverted."
Raw yet refined: "I'm really anti-overproduction," Simms says. "My favorite thing is when I can hear different fidelities within the music."
Borden: "It's still gritty but palatable."
What's in a name? Any correlation to "Eat a Scooby snack and take a disco nap" (Alright Hear This by the Beastie Boys) is purely coincidental, they say. The moniker came about when friend and former keyboardist Yosi Sonnenberg, a " '70s freak," announced he would go home and take a disco nap after being worn out from band practice.
Early start: All three guys formed a band at the tender age of 14 called Lights Red.
CDs: A five-song EP is available through the band's MySpace page (www.myspace.com/disconap) and a full length will be out in the next couple of months.
Sibling revelry: Simms produced or co-wrote songs on sister Juliet Simms' new CD, Which Way to Wonderland, featuring members of Beck's backing band playing and releasing later this year on Epic Records.
Open up and say 'awesome': Walker and Simms were raised by musicians, but Borden says he's the first in his clan to play an instrument. "I'm from a family of Jewish dentists."
Check 'em out: Friday (4/21) with the Timeout Drawer at New World Brewery in Ybor City. The band also will be at Neptune's Lounge in Clearwater with Tres Bien, The Same, Look Mexico and Mouse Fire on May 6.
