If August's dog days are getting to you and you feel hot in all the bad ways, get to Studio@620 on Sunday (8/20) for a pleasantly sultry evening of Brazilian sights, sounds and tastes.
The downtown St. Petersburg gallery event, presented by EMIT and BrasilArts, features an exhibition of Brazilian artists who vary in age, backgrounds, media and techniques.
Participating artists include Ernani Silva, Luiz Guido Carli, Miguel Penha, Jose Pereira and Olivia Amaral.
Smooth bossa nova tunes and other styles come by way of the quartet Brisa Do Brasil and Chorinho with Alex Santos. Stick around for the percussive tradition of batucada, with Alvon Griffin, who'll lead an open session. Attendees are urged to bring their own hand drums and join in.
There's even theater: Brazilian-born performer Wilson Loria presents a scene from his solo theater piece To the Winners, which incorporates mime, dance and accordion music. Brazilian snacks and beverages will be for sale.
